Can't see incoming x10 communications

I am under the impression that I should be able to see commands coming in from other x10 controllers. I have a CM19a, and if I listen to 1099, 1100, or 1101 using nc I can't see anything when I use x10 remotes.

I had the same problem until I realized that the CM19A has VERY poor sensitivity as a receiver. Smaller remotes like the KR22A and SS13A have to be with a foot or two of the CM19A in order to be received. The HR12A seems to transmit more power. There are several discussions online about replacing the CM19A antenna or adding a modified receive antenna. I have experimented with several external antennas and gotten greatly improved range, with mochad performing as expected.
