Error: Could not open Beyond Compare

I have Installed ver1.0.7 extension on visual studio code IDE (win 10).
"select left file" is successful but when I chose "compare to Left File" error "Error: Could not open Beyond Compare" appears

This is likely a general setup issue, so we would need to troubleshoot other methods of launching Beyond Compare more generally. Can you launch from the start menu shortcut and the command line? Where is BC installed and which version of BC is installed (Help menu -> About dialog)?

You can also email us directly at support@scootersoftware.com and include things like your BCSupport.zip (Help menu -> Support; Export) that would get us more information about your system and settings.

One other quick test:

If you installed BC5 and then uninstalled BC4, this can clear out some of our registry settings that the VSCode extension still uses. To fix this scenario, re-run the BC5 installer to re-add them.

you must install beyond compare application first, not only this extension.

I installed the extension today for the first time, closed and reopened VS Code and tried to open BC5 from context menu on a file but I always get the error:

After this, then, I tried again to download the BC5 installer and repeated the procedure (to be sure all registry entries are present), restarted VS Code and same result, error!
BC5 works correctly if I open it manually from the windows menu or with the context menu in explorer.
Are there other tests I can try to solve the problem?

Run regedit and double check if one or the other registry keys exist:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare\ExePath
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare\ExePath

Note that neither of those has a version number on them. There may also be "Beyond Compare 5" keys, but the unversioned ones are used by the extension.

If that doesn't help, you can add the install directory to your %PATH% environment variable so that just running "bcompare" from the command line will launch BC. That's what the extension will fall back to if the registry values aren't correct.

I have checked the registry and I have the key only in the HKLM!
I have tried to add the install directory to the path and, if I open a new command prompt and write bcompare, the application starts correctly but if I open VSCode I have always the same message: "Error: Could not open Beyond Compare".

PS: I have added the path on the user environment variables.

I have BC in portable mode and had same error.
Adding the "ExePath" registry key fixed the issue for me: I did run this command line in a command prompt from the path where BCompare.exe exists:
Reg.exe add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Scooter Software\Beyond Compare 5" /v "ExePath" /t REG_SZ /d "%cd%\BCompare.exe" /f

Still it would be nice if bcompare-vscode provides a setting to the user where we have the option to manually set the path, then no regs path setup is needed...
