Hii, I have been making a script to setup and install penetration testing tools on Arch Linux. Initially I had thought to use Nix OS too as a base for it but because I didn't have much experience with it, I decided to make it for arch. Yes I have heard of Blackarch, but I wanted something lightweight and solid. The reason I made my script was because I had trouble in kali with drivers and frequent breaking of system requiring me to reinstall the OS, and apt was just slow.

So who is the target audience of this project? Because it uses Nix, I am sure it wouldn't be suitable for users coming from Kali or parrot OS with no much Linux experience in general. Many new users might not even understand the concept of nix and immutability.

The issue you are describing with packages and other stuff regularly breaking on Kali Linux due to its rolling release nature is pretty much the same experience i have. Unfortunately the same problems arise on Arch Linux as it is also a rolling release distribution where i cannot easily pin package versions.

So far only NixOS was able to solve these issues for me that is why i started with this project as I can no longer keep using arch for the long term.

I mainly created this project for myself as I need a reliable system that does not break and does not have any unpredictable behaviour. Right now the project is still in very active development and not yet usable for the public without additional modifications to the code. I still would need to make the flake more modular so you can specify your user account, home-folder, etc in a top level configuration without editing the source code. This project is still WIP.

You are right for new users coming from Kali or Parrot NixOS might be very challenging as it is very different from regular distros in it's core concepts. I would say that NixOS and Nix Flakes are generally more geared towards advanced users although in this case i am already providing the whole flake.

Keep in mind that this flake includes settings and presets that I like which might not be best for everyone as everyone has a unique taste and different requirements.
