Dragging E-Mail Over TB(!) Tab, Then Drop Into QF Tab, Changes Content of TB Tab

Thunderbird 146.0.1 (64-bit) (from Fedora 42 repos) + QuickFolders 6.14.2 + Pro License.

To reproduce:

• Have TB open with (at least) three e-mails.
• (In case it matters, I sort the INBOX Order Received - Descending - Unthreaded.)
• Doubleclick E-Mail no. 2 to open it in a new TB(!) Tab.
• Return to main tab.
• Drag E-Mail no. 1 towards QF tabs to drop it into one ...
• ... but move the mouse "too far", over the TB tab ...
• ... and wait / wiggle until TB displays the TB tab with e-mail no. 2 in it.
• Move mouse back down and drop e-mail no. 1 into a QF tab.
• TB tab (still displayed) changes content to e-mail no. 3!

I initially noticed this problem with tabs containing way older e-mails, opened in a tab as reminders of a to-do, so finding their original content again would be way harder (which is why I created those reminder tabs). :-3

Note that I did not (yet?) check whether the bug exists with TB alone (sans QF) - without QF tabs, I wouldn't have a reason to drag e-mails up there in the first place ...

Problem is, when TB displays the tab, I have nowhere (within the one window) but TB tabs and QF tabs to drop the dragged e-mail into, and the TB tabs don't accept drops ...

ok - if I understand correctly - you accidentally drag the email to a single mail tab and then down into a QuickFolders tab - not sure what is supposed to happen then - just moving the email?

I have to admit that I have not yet verified that the dragged e-mail does indeed arrive in the folder I have QF-tab-dropped it into (in my testing, I just hit Ctrl-Z to restore it to the INBOX to run the test again) ... will do when time permits. Yes, that's the nominal result I would expect - that mouse (re)actions between click-to-drag and the final unclick-to-drop would not change the result of the drag+drop.

But in any case, the drag+drop "touching" the TB tab (that you cannot drop e-mails into) should not cause the content of that tab to change, much less to an unrelated third e-mail.

(As I said, I don't know whether the root cause is actually in QF's code or TB's own, and don't see an easy way to test that, sorry ...)

But in any case, the drag+drop "touching" the TB tab (that you cannot drop e-mails into) should not cause the content of that tab to change, much less to an unrelated third e-mail.

I am afraid I cannot change that behavior (I cannot lock out the system when you start dragging an email from anywhere), but I can look at what happens when (and if) you have the QF toolbar displayed in that single message tab and you drop the mail to a tab there. Thunderbird will always activate a tab when you drag a mail over it, for good reason - you can move email to a different folder that way. Whether it makes sense on a single message tab is debatable, but technically it is still a mail tab / 3pane tab just with other elements hidden (to be confirmed).

If you want to cancel the drag I believe you can just hit [ESC] on your keyboard.

I am not quite sure what QuickFolders regards as the "current folder" on such a tab.

Since I've been tasked with test-driving the Owl plugin, I was able to test with a fresh TB profile ...

TB+Owl, Window 1 with (Folder Tree +) INBOX in current tab, some e-mail in another tab, Window 2 with (Folder Tree +) other folder in (sole) tab.
Drag (other) e-mail from INBOX, wiggle over other tab 'til it gets displayed in main pane, drag further to folder in other window('s folder tree), drop there.
Result: Single-e-mail tab remains unchanged, dragged e-mail disappears from INBOX and pops up in folder of other window. (Read: Behavior as expected.)

Move dragged e-mail back to INBOX, install QF (sans license so far), create a couple QF tabs, repeat above test (where dragging crosses QF tab area twice). Same (correct) result.

Move dragged e-mail back to INBOX, drag to TB tab as above, then drop into QF tab (in window 1) instead.
Result: Dragged e-mail disappears from INBOX and reappears in folder of QF tab (so far correct), e-mail shown in TB tab changes (wrong).
