Stanford Research devices plugins release status

I apologise for disturbing you.

I am trying to acquire data from an SR830 lock-in amplifier using PyMoDAQ. However, it seems the plugins for Stanford Research devices are not available on PyPI. Is there a specific reason for this? Are the plugins functional?

Hi there, indeed the automatic publication failed... The plugins should be functionals even if a bit old style. I'l work on it soon and publish it on pypi. In the mean time, if you know how, just install from github:

pip install git+https://github.com/PyMoDAQ/pymodaq_plugins_stanford_research_systems

you'll need git on your os!

Sorry for the delayed update.

I managed to install the plugin with all of its dependencies, but I am having trouble to connect my lock-in amplifier to my computer.

I am using the RS-232 interface on the SR830 connected to the computer via an RS-232/USB adapter. I verified the connection by directly sending commands from my computer through its serial port, and the amplifier responds correctly. However, when I try to establish a connection with PyMoDAQ, it detects the VISA address of the adapter, but not the COM port it's supposed to emulate.

I don't think the issue is related to PyMoDAQ itself, but rather with how PyMeasure (which the PyMoDAQ plugin is based on) detects connected devices. When I tried communicating with the amplifier using only PyMeasure, I encountered the same issue and sending commands to a hypothetical SR830 using the VISA address of the adapter always leads to a timeout error. I also suspect the ERROR indicator on my SR830 is damaged so I cannot verify if it receives anything at all from the PyMeasure class methods.

My SR830 setup doesn't seem unusual, yet I haven't found any relevant information on forums. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
