Description
Expected Behavior
Copy II Plus 8.5ɑ2 — which comes with ProDOS 2.5ɑ8 — should ask for the date on a clockless Apple II and then use it.
Actual Behavior
Copy II Plus asks for the date and then changes it to something completely different.
Steps to Reproduce
- Download ProDOS 2.5ɑ8 at https://prodos8.com/releases/prodos-25/ and write it to a 5¼" disk.
- Boot on a clockless Apple II
- From the menu select
/CopyIIPlus.8.5and thenUTIL.SYSTEM. - Type the date and hit Return. (For example, I entered 04APR202310:15.)
- Note that CopyIIPlus now shows the date incorrectly at the bottom of the screen. (For example, I now see
01-Ode2017 0:15)
Context
Note that this is not a Y2K bug. If I enter the date as 09 September 1999, I am told that the year is now 2037.
Your Environment
Hardware:
128K Apple //e Enhanced with no hardware clock.
Probably irrelevant, but included for completeness: 80 Column Card, Disk II Card, MicroSoft Softcard, Super Serial Card, and Quark Keyboard Dongle (WordJuggler DRM).
ProDOS8 version:
ProDOS8 2.5 Alpha 8
Non-Operating System release software being used:
CopyIIPlus 8.5a2
Side Question
This version of CopyIIPlus (called "8.5") was modified for the ProDOS 2.5 to handle lowercase and 4-digit dates, but in several ways is not as usable as the version it was based on (8.4). Since this software is still in alpha, it seems like a good time to look at the design before it gets baked in. Is this project open to bug reports on usability issues? Thanks!
