Character Nature

  1. Corporate Representatives:

    • Nature: Opportunistic, profit-driven, and manipulative. They are skilled at presenting themselves as benevolent and helpful while hiding their true intentions.
    • Motivations: Primarily motivated by profit and control. They see the Vanguard technology and the unique ecosystem as opportunities to develop new products, gain patents, and monopolize resources.
  2. Government Officials:

    • Nature: Bureaucratic, obedient, and cautious. They follow orders from higher-ups and are focused on maintaining their positions and avoiding blame.
    • Motivations: Motivated by job security and the directives from their superiors. They want to ensure that the Vanguard technology is harnessed for national security and surveillance purposes, as directed by their power-hungry leaders.

Mode of Treachery

  1. Corporate Treachery:

    • Sabotage: They might sabotage the Vanguard's efforts to protect the forest, causing failures that they can then "fix" with their own solutions, thereby gaining trust and control.
    • Espionage: It is a given they are there to steal technology and data. Less certain is whether they know that we know.
  2. Government Treachery:

    • Regulatory Overreach: Implementing new regulations that force the Vanguard to share their technology and data under the guise of national security or environmental protection.
    • Surveillance: Using the deployment of telemetry and monitoring equipment as a cover to install surveillance devices, keeping tabs on the Vanguard and the local population.
    • Coercion: Threatening legal action or using other forms of pressure to force compliance with government demands, such as sharing technology or allowing government oversight. This doesn't work on directly on vangard, but it does work when applied indirectly to people they care about.

Subplot: Higher Tier Vanguard Busy

  • Distraction Plot: The higher tier Vanguard could be occupied with a significant threat or mission elsewhere, making it difficult for them to intervene. This could be orchestrated by the corporate and government entities to ensure the lower tier Vanguard is isolated and more vulnerable to their manipulations.
  • Communication Interference: There's no network in a wilderness. Our hero cannot inform higher tier vanguard of the need for assistance so the government is in a stronger position to impose its will. They'd have to keep him away from Starlink Wifi.
