hey man, first and foremost thanks for making this project possible, as someone who has the misfortune to live near russian servers where i don't have no clue what anyone is saying and just overall feel lost with no comms and shit, thank you.
i’ve had some suggestions in mind for the project, i don’t know if you still have the intention and motivation to take feedback right now (i saw the latest commit was a few months back), but i figured better speak than be quiet, maybe it ends up being useful or someone else picks it up and sends a pull request.
one thing i’ve noticed is that deepl generally provides more accurate translations than google, especially in terms of context, which matters a lot when it comes to the core meaning of someone's message. from what i know, deepl offers a free api tier too, same as google, but with better contextual accuracy, so maybe it would make sense to add it as an option or even as the default translator. it might require a bit of setup with api keys, but i think the trade-off in quality could be worth it.
another idea would be a way not only to translate incoming messages, but also to make it easier to send responses back in the other language while in-game. i know that’s more complex than just reading the console output and translating, but even something simple like typing your response, having it translated instantly, and then being able to copy it with a hotkey into cs2 chat would save time compared to alt+tabbing. i think that would be a good balance between functionality and avoiding any weirdness with anti-cheat, since it just copies and lets the player paste manually.
anyway, just wanted to share these thoughts in case they’re useful. if it’s too much work or you’re not maintaining this right now, no worries at all, i just appreciate the project being out there. if not, hope you have a great rest of whatever you’re working on :)
