Weird request: DTMF command to change ident / courtesy tone settings

I have no clue how to describe this, but I'll give this my best shot.

We currently have our repeater setup with multiple, for lack of a better term, 'profiles.' Say, one for normal function and one for SKYWARN / ARES nets, which do two things:

1. Change the courtesy tone, so it's immediately recognizable if the repeater is in "net" mode or not
2. Change the ident from " repeater " to " net " (paraphrasing, here).

From what I can see here, both of those setting as far as OpenRepeater is concerned are hard-coded and not meant to be changed on the fly. Do you happen to know if this is something that SvxLink can handle and it just goes against some OpenRepeater assumptions, or do I need to raise an issue there instead?

I believe any changes to the configuration would require a reload of SVXLink. So for example changing the courtesy tone would require a change to the configuration file then a reload.

With either ORP this may be something that you could handle at the simplest level with a bash script maybe doing a SED on the values. Then have the script initiate the SVXLink reload.

This could be triggered via SSH access if you have it setup/available. Maybe even a cron job.

You could layer a custom module on top of that DTMF control and that could fire the bash script. Just some initial surface level thoughts.

Alternatively, I know that it's possible to add custom DTMF commands into the Tcl scripts.. I wonder if I could do this the "weird" way and have that set to entire replace the file, or just poke the "correct" values into the ORP DB and trigger a reload (well, assuming that can be done but if a script can do it I assume Tcl can do it).

For a second I wondered if just a module could do this but I don't know what sort of options they have, I can't seem to find many resources for module development. Happen to know where any are so I can take a look?

Regardless of how it's achieved, at the lowest level the values need to be changed in the SVXLink configuration file and SVXLink forced to reload. The repeater will gone offline for a moment in the process.

I think it is unlikely anyone will be messing with changes in the ORP UI during a net so it’s unlikely someone will override the temporary changes made by a script. I think a bash script should be easy enough especially if you know what the tone file names that need changed and use the correct matching pattern.

There is already a helper bash script called orp_helper that you could use to initiate the SVXLink reload.

A bash script should be the basis in my opinion. Once you've proven the concept, then you can build on that with a DTMF control module. Think of that as the whip cream.

I would find this to be very helpful as well. It would be great to be able to change the tone and message when an activation is going on.
