Trouble installing on Mac: OpenSN - MacOS - configure_dependencies.py

I am attempting to install OpenSn on my mac while I wait for cluster access.

So far, the process has gone smoothly. It seems like the pathing for petsc is a little wonky for me. Note the double-slash (//) which should be just a single slash. I am also not sure why local pathing is used. I am running this from my opensn01 directory, not opensn01_dependencies. Should this matter?

make OMAKE_PRINTDIR=make all -j4 makefile:23: lib/petsc/(and so on)

• The double slash is not a problem, you can try yourself that cd /Users//carlson1 will work and move you into your home dir.
• The location you are running the script from should not matter either, we do all the work in the dir specified by -d flag
• The problem is that there is a missing "prefix" for lib/petsc/conf/petscvariables

I tried to run the configure_dependencies.py script in a new fresh environment and it finished for me. So, if you could go into /Users/carlson1/Documents/opensn01_dependencies, there will be a directory called logs and another one called src. We will need 2 files:

• logs/petsc_log.txt
• src/petsc-3.20.6/configure.log

If you could post the files here (attach them, don't copy-paste), that could tell us why the build failed for you.

Thanks. I couldn't find src/petsc-3.20.6/configure.log. I attached an image so you can see. Please let me know if you have trouble accessing petsc_log.txt

I changed the two lines in configure_dependencies.py. I will let you know if this works.

Yikes! The issue is different than before. I think I am getting close.

The error seems to be...

Should this be using Xcode? It should be using the homebrew python3.12, correct?

If you are using homebrew, it should be using everything from homebrew: python, compilers, mpi, etc.

I can see from the log, that you have mpich installed in ~/Documents/mpich_install/bin/ and PETSc is picking that up. Is there a reason why you want to use that instead of mpich from homebrew? If not, you may want to check you bash/zsh profile and adjust your environment, so you get everything from homebrew. I cannot give you exact instructions, I don't use homebrew, so my experience is very limited. But, mixing 2 environments is known to cause problems...

Step 2 in the MacOS easy install suggests to build mpich. I try not to deviate from the instructions. I also have conda, so I do not want to mess with my zsh profile too much.

I updated the paths according to the install guide in my terminal session.
