Can't turn off decals on linux

I am running on opensuse tumbleweed (amd64).
Turning off decals has no effect, I still see bodies exploding.
This was with both "vanilla" when the new installer for linux was first released, and the most recent 3347 Preview 17.
I find it distracting and occasionally it drops framerates (with vanilla install, P17 I have to test more), so I want it off.

I can't confirm this problem on my linux setup. Turning off decals also disables rendering of these effects in game.

I'm also confused with what you exactly mean with "I still see bodies exploding." Gibbing isn't tied to decals so you will see "exploding" bodies when using heavy weapons like Flak Cannon or Rocket Launcher.

Do you still see blood marks on walls or floor when disabling decals? Do you still see bullet holes when firing a weapon to a wall or floor when decals are disabled?

Apologies, I thought it would also disable body parts flying around after a frag.
Is there a way to turn that off?

Those are controlled by the gore settings
