download always fails. linux

download always fails for me. tried about 10 times..
BUT i can download the file just fine with firefox..

but the script refuses to skip downloading the file and just use the one i have..
tries 4 times, fails 4 times. never get over 500mb at 3mb/s ( which is how fast my net is) ( sometimes at 400k/s which i assume is a mirror)

so i can never continue.
if i keep the files why is it not skipping the download or at least have the option?

linux debian 13 all up to date today.
tried both the desktop and install script

in the file "install-ut2004.sh" line 1327
[game]="UT2004.iso"

should be
[game]="UT2004.ISO"

or the installer never knows if a previous download exists.
( for whatever reason i could not rename the files themselves and have the installer find them. i had to edit the installer)

Linux filesystems are case sensitive. If you are downloading the files manually, you need to match the expected casing.

This is not a bug.

I did match the file name exactly after manually downloading it. But it still refused to recognize it. Until i changed the script. Then it worked fine

You didn't. If it worked after, it's because you had not matched the extension casing to what the script was expecting. The script expects the file to be named UT2004.iso in the Installer directory, your file was named UT2004.ISO.

Once again. I renamed it UT2004.iso deleted it copied it over again and renamed it again renamed it back, downloaded it again. Checked the hash a few times, renamed it again. Then finally renamed it in the script..
I tried everything (many times) before i changed the script.

I would not waste your time otherwise.

The logic is defined in download_files.sh (which then gets combined into the compiled one-file script).

The installer will not accept an existing file if:

• The file name doesn't match (which, if you said you verified that, let's assume it did)
• The file size is different than expected
• The file hash is different than expected

If the installer deleted the file that you had downloaded, then one of those conditions must have been true. The [game] entry in the DOWNLOADS_FILENAME_LIST array is only used to determine what the file should be named on disk. It could be any value, as long as it is internally consistent, and since values are always read from the array, they are (nothing is hard coded, as the download step is shared between all 3 games).

Therefore, it is likely that your previous downloads were not complete due to the quality of your internet connection, and the installer rejected them as the hash or size didn't match.

Yes. I understand the logic tree used for downloads I did look at it and follow it to see what i might be doing wrong, or how i could skip the name check, hash check, it size check. It is possible then when i copied the file from downloads to .Local there was a miss write (script never visibly checked the hash) i checked the hash of the file in downloads)). But i copied it 3 times and the last time i did not delete it and copy it yet again. I renamed it back to UT2004.ISO and changed the script. And it worked. It accepted the name and i saw it check the hash. (I did not see it accept the file size) (it never visibly checked the hash before either) (The script never deleted the last failed download, which is one reason i know i renamed it correctly, as i renamed the fail as UT2004.iso.fail) Now i know that is not logical. But that is what happened. And i reported it. If for no other reason then someone else might have this issue, and will find what worked for me. I tried the script downloading maybe 8 times with each time the script failed downloading 4 times. Firefox downloaded it from the first mirror in the script flawlessly the first time. My Internet is not so unstable as to justify such an occurrence. I regularly download 4gb things quite slowly for 2 hours without fail. You can close this. I am just reporting what happened to me and how i fixed it.

I also had issues with the download script on Fedora Linux, I had to manually download the ISO, figure out where to place it, and then re-run the install script.

I suspect it could be fixed with a better timeout but I haven't had a chance to look at the script again
