Not only to address outages, but this is required for environments where access to the internet is locked down... |

Microsoft recently had an
Azure Front Door outageon October 29, 2025, documented here, that affected all Microsoft 365 add-ins preventing users from using and accessing add-ins. This issue was initially posted here and lasted for several hours before a fix was confirmed. The same issue happened a year ago, filed in this Github ticket. The issue impacts Officejs, which is hosted in Azure Front door, which means "https://appsforoffice.microsoft.com/lib/1/hosted/office.js" will also be down, hence the Office add-ins being in an useable state. Both issues were resolved and closed once the invalid configuration was fixed. However, there are ongoing concerns regarding outages of this nature. When Microsoft experiences an issue or Azure is down, MS add-ins are affected, and users or teams managing them have no control over the situation. Similar concerns were raised in both tickets, but no clear resolution or guidance has been provided on what users or teams can do when such outages occur.
These types of critical outages have affected both clients and our team, and it is concerning that we have no control over them. Such incidents negatively impact the reliability of our product. Are there any alternative or workarounds Microsoft can offer to handle outages like this? One comment in the recent ticket said that Microsoft mentioned that hosting our own copy of https://appsforoffice.microsoft.com/lib/1/hosted/office.js is not ideal I'm assuming because of compatibility and security issue - another comment offered using an alternate link however users mentioned that this seems outdated. Can Microsoft provide something similar? Should we open a feature request w/ this query instead?
Please let me know if there's any issues or incorrect information w/ my query, hoping we can have an insightful discussion regarding handling outages like this one.
