Works: We don't need the category dropdown any more

This is one of those 'tweaks' that has been sitting around on the User Feedback board (https://trello.com/c/CuAkvd31) for a while now, marked as 'To be done in the registry speedup'.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too problematic to remove the dropdown entirely.
