Compilier Error

Any time I try compiling code for my mega (through the hoodloader2 definition) I get the following error.
cc1.exe: error: -fno-fat-lto-objects are supported only with linker plugin.

I saw other post's discussing switching to an older version of the IDE, but also saying something about proper board definitions?
I'm new to Arduino so I don't really know what I'm doing, a step by step of sorts would be appreciated. I already did what is listed in the wiki for software instillation.
