@DavidNGray I think this thing you created here is under-discovered and quite interesting.

I recently pulled and built the tool from this repository. Is it outdated? And are you still improving this tool?

SourceForge converted to using git sometime after this copy was made.
Version 2.0 of gema with Unicode support was released last year. I don't have any more plans at this point, but am open to receiving bug reports or new ideas. Thanks for your interest.

Back when I made that copy it was very useful for source-to-source conversions. Haven't taken a look ever since but quite a neat project.

There is not a single gema video tutorial out there, thinking of making one to complement my portfolio as a technology teacher, and of course because I also admire this creation.

This is a list of SQL statements, which need to be split into two sections, one with all the triggers disabled (prior to importing the information) and the other with all of them enabled.

Is this possible to do in Gema?

@od-vennre, I'm not sure I understand what you have in mind, but there are a couple of ways this could be approached. One would be to use the write function to separate the data into more than one output file. Another would be to use the append function to collect output data as the value of one or more variables, which can be combined in the desired order at the end (\E). Or you could just do multiple passes with different rule sets; that could even be done in a single process with multiple calls to read.

The Gema file I am using extracts the SQL COPY statements using the following rule:

\nCOPY <I>.<I> *\n\\.\n<s>=\nALTER TABLE $1.$2 DISABLE TRIGGER USER\;\n$0\nALTER TABLE $1.$2 ENABLE TRIGGER USER\;\n\n

Ideally, the statements:

ALTER TABLE xxx.xxx DISABLE TRIGGER USER;

... should end up at the beginning of the final (i.e. gema-transformed) migration script, while:

ALTER TABLE xxx.xxx ENABLE TRIGGER USER;

... should end up at the end of the final (i.e. gema-transformed) migration script.

I did not realise that the Gema processor allows us to retain information in variables, so this seems like a great candidate for what I want to achieve. I suppose that I can accumulate one set of statements in one variable, the other set in the other, then insert the value of one variable at the beginning of processed file, while inserting the value of the other variable at the end of the processed file. Is this possible? and how can I do that?

I would really love it if there is something like a Gema forum or a community. If you want to create one I would be willing to provide the infrastructure but then I am not sure how we would promote it. In the beginning it is likely going to be just you and I.
