Running dgen model for more recent year

Hi NREL team,

I was wondering if you have any advice on how I can run the dgen model using historical data for more recent years (i.e. starting from 2024). With what's currently in Github, it seems like most of the data is starting from 2014 or 2019. Thanks!

Hi @amy-wang,
We are currently working to update the datasets in the input_data directory (most of what is used in the 2024_input_sheet.xlsm input sheet for the model), the input agents, and the SQL database files, but these updates will most likely not be published for use in dGen for the next 3 to 6 months.

While we are working on those updates, one option for you is to update the values manually and adjust the code as needed (i.e., update file name references, column names, etc.) If you are looking to update values in the database tables, you are able to use pgAdmin to export the specific table as a CSV to your computer, change the values of interest, and then re-upload the file back to the database. This website has a step by step guide on how to use the export functionality in pgAdmin.

Re-uploading the csv to the table is a little more tricky, but the basic steps are, in the target schema:
right clicking "Tables" > "Create" > "Tables" > under "columns", select the original table as the table to inherit the columns from (ex: to update and use the solar_resource_hourly table you would select "diffusion_resource_solar.solar_resource_hourly") > click "save".
Then, right click your new table > import/export > "Import" > select the updated CSV file > "Ok" and the CSV file will be uploaded to the new table. From there, you can delete the old table and rename the new table to what the previous table was named, or update the code to reference that new table instead.
