If you wishes to use the graphical engine for ruby-warrior, you must have rubygame installed. You will need to turn on the engine for it to run in graphic mode. 
Change the graphic option in data/config.yml to true to do so. The graphic front end does not replace the ACSII version but instead complement it. 

Below are installation instructions for Rubygame:

==Debian based GNU/Linux Distro==
You will need Rubygem to accomplish this task.

1. sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-all libsdl1.2-dev libsdl-gfx1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl-mixer1.2-dev libsdl-ttf2.0-dev
1.2 You may also need to install libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio
2. sudo gem install rubygame --platform=ruby
