Translation into Swedish and some other European languages

Ever since I started using BirdNET-Pi several years ago, I have customized the interface to my liking. Among other things, I prefer to have the different pages in my native language. I have shared my customization with others in Sweden. I have now further developed this to require only a single command to perform all necessary setup. Perhaps others would be interested?

• Translation is applied to all public, non-login pages.

• The name of the installation location can be easily inserted into the page title, as well as the user's national flag.

• The space below the title is flexible, allowing for the insertion of local information, such as weather data.

• Wikipedia links are changed to the user's preferred language.

• A single command is run initially, and subsequent updates are handled via a button under "System Controls."

• The update takes a total of 30–45 seconds. If the database is large, it may take a few minutes.

• The entire installation is downloaded with each update (git pull -f is specified) and then modified from scratch, with the exception of the index.php file and a few other proprietary files.

• A Translate folder is downloaded locally and includes all necessary files and scripts, allowing you to make and run changes locally if needed. If this local folder is used, the program updates are still downloaded, but the customization routine itself is preserved (not updated).

• The translation into other languages is performed using AI, and while this will likely require some adjustments, I hope a volunteer from each country can assist with proofreading. The translation file is quick to review.

• It's very easy to go back to the original version!

Translation for Slovenia has now been added thanks to a user there creating a file with the translations. If anyone else wants to do the same for their own language not already included they are of course welcome.

For the following countries that are already included, I need verification of the translation from someone who knows the language.

In addition to the countries for which translations are verified (Sweden, France, Netherlands and Slovenia), I have now added drafts for additional countries. These should be all of the countries in Europe that have a reasonably large representation on BirdWeather.

All modifications can be installed, but as I said before, I would be grateful if someone from each country could check that the translation is correct. Under "Links" in the modified version there is an email address where you can reach me or write in my repository as mentioned above. Other comments and feedback are also welcome. Thanks!

I was just looking into this. Is the idea to translate all of the PHP files into their respective languages?
While doable, that cuts off all of those pages from updates in the future, right. Either thy won't get updated or they will revert back to english after a page has been updated?
Wouldn't it make more sense to have translation pairs for each language, where the default string is in english and will be replaced from a dictionary to whatever language.
Sorry if I misunderstood the task at hand. Just trying to help with the great idea.

Thanks for your point of view and good that you asked.

The first time you translate the page with the command I made, the title will be adjusted to the location you specify and the flag for the country will be added. The index.php file will then be saved when you make future updates. Some other copies of files are also made and saved.

When translating, all pages are translated into the language you have chosen. A new button for future updates to the language you have chosen is created under "System Controls" and this also shows the number of updates. If you click on it, all files in the original version will be downloaded, after which a new translation will be made and the saved index.php file will be copied back.

If you want to go back to the regular version in English, just click on the regular "Update" button a little further up the page.

Your idea of ​​using a dictionary is absolutely excellent and I would like it too. However, I'm not very good at programming, so someone else is welcome to do this and in that case the language you want on the pages could be selected in the configuration.
