Description
The word and latex templates for music proceedings entries have different styles.
Specifically, the latex template is set using libertine.sty which uses Linux Libertine for the body and Linux Biolinum for the body.
In contrast, the Word document uses Times New Roman for the text font and various sans fonts (Helvetica, Arial) for the headings.
This is a tricky one. It's possible to use Linux Libertine an dLinux Biolinum in Word if you have the font installed (e.g., if you're on a Mac with Homebrew you can run brew install --cask font-linux-libertine font-linux-biolinum to get these fonts), alternatively the fonts are open source and can just be installed manually.
But I wonder whether it's reasonable to expect authors using the Word document to install separate fonts. A better solution may be to somehow change the fonts at the camera ready stage (so authors upload .docx files rather than an incorrect PDF).
All options suck in different ways:
- If we ask Word authors to install special fonts: Word authors would be annoyed about installing things that aren't included with their computer
- If we fix Word documents at the camera ready stage: conference organisers would have to absorb responsibility for formatting Word-based submissions.
- If we just accept that there are publications with different fonts in the proceedings: our proceedings looks less uniform and less professional.
I have no answer but feel it's worth discussion. Option 2 may be worth a try for a year.
