oceanography, and environmental issues.

Participants will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
<br>1. Knowledge and Research(15 Marks) : Depth of understanding,
factual accuracy, and evidence-based arguments related to the
chosen topic.
<br>2. Communication and Presentation(10 Marks) : Clarity,
persuasiveness, and effective delivery of arguments through logical
reasoning, examples, and supporting evidence.
<br>3. Rebuttal and Counter Arguments(15 Marks): Ability to respond to
opposing arguments with well-articulated counterpoints and
refutations.
<br>4. Engagement and Participation(5 Marks): Active involvement in
the debate, respect for others' opinions, and ability to engage the
audience.
<br>
5. Overall Impact(5 Marks): Coherence of arguments, ability to
present a compelling case, and demonstration of critical thinking skills.

<h3>Problem Statement</h3>

<br>The participants have to select a real world ship/ferry and create a model of it. You will have to present your design ideas compulsorily including the following parameters:
<br>1. Physical parameters including length, breadth, draft etc.
<br>2. Propulsion and control mechanism.
<br>3. Type of hull form.
<br>4. Real life application and uses.
<br>5. Any other special feature/ innovation.
<br>
<br>Minimum size of the model is
<br>Length = 10cm
<br>Breadth = 5 cm
<br>Depth = 2.5 cm
<br>
<br>While there is no upper size limit to the model it is recommended that the model is easy to transport.

1. Language and Style: This debate will be conducted in the English language
only, and we expect all participants to engage in a polite and respectable manner
throughout the event.
<br>
2. Respectful Listening: While your opponent team is presenting their arguments,
we urge all participants to maintain calmness and refrain from interrupting in the
middle of their speech. Please give them the opportunity to express their ideas
fully.<br>
3. No Interruptions: Breaking the rule of interrupting your opponent's speech will
result in losing your chance to speak during that specific segment. Let's show
courtesy to our fellow debaters.
<br>
4. Preparation Time: Once the debate topic is revealed, teams will be given a fair
preparation time of 5 to 10 minutes. Feel free to jot down your main points on a
piece of paper during this period.
<br>
5. No Phones: To maintain focus and fairness, the use of phones will not be
allowed after the preparation time. Please refrain from using them during the
debate.
<br>
6. Respectful Tone: Shouting or using aggressive language is not allowed.
Engage in discussions with a composed and respectful tone. Teams that violate
this rule may receive negative marks.
<br>
7. Keep Calm and Polite: Above all, let's remember to be calm, cool, and polite
throughout the debate. We're here to learn from each other's perspectives and
engage in constructive conversations.

<p>All participating teams will receive certificates of participation from Samudramanthan, IIT Kharagpur. The top submissions may be published on our social media pages to appreciate their unique concept and approach.
<br><br>Boat Expo 2023 will award cash prizes to the top 3 participating teams based on the presentation made. The overall prize pool money is ₹15,000/- for this event. The winners will also receive Certificates from Samudramanthan and a mention on our social media pages.
