Daphnia destroying their own eggs. Also fish getting stuck. Specialty items? #45

It's especially apparent if you put the Daphnia in a small tank. Even with plenty of algae around to eat, they will basically swim through their own Daphnia eggs and can destroy entire rows and mounds of eggs at a time. It makes the microcultures I want to start impossible.
I think the fish and creatures should be able to swim through the grass; it doesn't really make sense that it would stop them from traveling. Sometimes the fish get stuck on one side of the tank just because the grass grows too tall. The fish also seem to sometimes be able to go through the grass, but also sometimes the fish and all other creatures get stuck IN the grass and disappear or die (like they cross through a diagonal pixel and can't get out again).
How do the specialty tank items work? One reset I got a book. Another longer reset I got a TV and a Trombone, and since I got two, I thought it was time-based to get new items, but a new item never popped up again no matter how long I waited :(
I love the idea of the game, it's very satisfying and cool, especially as someone who recently studied Limnology.
