Some characters are not recognized

Here's a number of characters I had in my bibtex that weren't recognized by the library:

• ` (backtick),
• – (en dash),
• «» (French quotes),
• № (numero sign).

Does that means these characters aren't valid in bibtex or should the library be able to parse them? JabRef doesn't seem to have any problems with these characters.

Also the embedded quotes does not seem to be supported (as in title = { "some quoted text" }).
