Cross-checking of Python2 removal from 3.1.0 #2534
Description
In #2215, Python2 support was removed on dev.
However since then there have potentially been other changes pushed to master that involve Python2; eg. #2532.
Therefore, before tagging 3.1.0 it will be necessary to cross-check that there is no residual content relevant to Python2 that has crept in through the various merging processes.
