Calling host.socket.notify can cause socket.io to throw 'unknown exception' 

Saw this today while pairing with @ifandelse. Didn't have time to track it down but think it's likely a race condition/timing related issue. AH should insulate apps from having to worry with this and prevent the error from getting thrown. Putting an issue in so it doesn't get forgotten.
