Improved Explanations: Convert Between Orthographic Spelling Rules #8

Each language and dialect has its own unique correspondence between the phonetic pronunciation of a word and how it is spelled orthographically using the language's writing system. A common way that language learners memorize pronunciation in a foreign language is by looking at how they would spell that word using their native language's spelling rules. It might be useful if our application could provide these "spellings" in the user's native language to help explain pronunciation and help the user memorize the rules. This is easier for more phonetic languages where the correspondence between pronunciation and orthographic spelling is more one-to-one, but even less phonetic languages still have some standard rules of how letter combinations usually sound (e.g., in English we expect oo to have the vowel sound in too and ‘C’ is pronounced like an ‘S’ when preceding ‘i’, ‘e’, ‘y’, etc.).
This will require researching multilingual p2g conversion and converting between writing systems using transliteration and romanization (existing libraries, the Google Transliteration API, and LLM-based approaches could be helpful).
