This one is actually quite important - finding the right image is pretty hard with the square photo only browser. Image proportions (landscape vs portrait) and image dimensions (pixel width/height) is especially important before picking a well suited image.

If it were up to me, I would always use a "list view" instead of the thumb grid. I'm most likely looking for something specific, and showing details is more important than showing a lot of options/images. The list view could show search results in rows containing a thumb with original proportions, filename, file size, dimensions and upload time, kind of like this dummy:
