Support split layout views with synced pan/zoom

I’m trying to compare two different layout panels (e.g., GDS/OASIS files) in KLayout and would like to view them side by side, with synchronized pan and zoom for easier navigation.

Is this possible with the current version of KLayout? If so, how can I enable it?

searching the web for “klayout synchronized views” will point you to https://www.klayout.de/doc/manual/view_options.html

The "View" menu offers some more options to tune the display:
Synchronized Views: with this option, all views (tabs) in the main window are synchronized,
i.e. they show the same region of the layout. This option can be useful if two layouts are loaded
in different views for clarity, but identical regions need to be inspected.

Is this what you’re after ?

This doesn't view them "side by side" though.

To view differences between two layout's, you can also load them in the same view with "open in same panel" and run tools->dbdiff/xor on them.
Use different stipple for @1 and @2 layers to see the differences, but this is also not "side by side" ...
