Palette not showing up in Keyboard options after OSX 12.1 (Monterey) update

I recently updated my Mac to OSX 12.1 (Monterey), and the Palette is no longer showing up in the input menu.
Tried reinstalling (and restarting), but no effect.
May also be an M1 chip issue...?

I have the same problem with an Intel Mac running 12.3 so it's unlikely to be that. When I first installed it, it worked once, but no more. It shows up in the Finder input menu, but not in the Keyboard Preferences pane. But the palette doesn't display although the status in the Finder input menu changes from "Show IPA Palette" to "Hide IPA Palette". It's a real shame if this can't be fixed. This was a wonderful tool.

I have managed to get this to work (with some slightly odd behaviour) by opening the IPAPalette.app inside IPA Manager.app/Contents/SharedSupport/. The palette still doesn't appear inside the Keyboard Preference pane, but it appears and disappears correctly from the Finder input menu however. It also behaves a bit strangely: double clicking on a symbol inserts the symbol, but then subsequent double clicks fail to insert anything. Dragging a symbol always works, and dragging then allows another single double click to work after that, but not more than one.

After update to OS 12.5 the behaviour has changed again. You can't launch the palette from the input menu but if you launch it by opening the IPAPalette.app directly, Show and Hide seem to work as expected. When opening the following error appears in the terminal window: [IMKServer initWithName:bundleIdentifier:]: [IMKServer _createConnection]: *Failed* to register NSConnection name=com.blugs.inputmethod.IPAPalette_Connection. (Some font loading errors also appear, but I assume these are not very relevant.) Double clicking on symbols no longer works at all, but dragging them still works.

I can't even get that... I can run the executable at /Applications/IPA Manager.app/Contents/SharedSupport/IPAPalette.app/Contents/MacOS/IPAPalette, and get the same error messages, but then nothing....

I recently forked this project and compiled a native version that seems to run ok on recent mac/macOS. I believe Apple doesn't show these input extensions in System Preferences anymore, but it should show up in the keyboard menu...

Thanks! I reinstalled but it still doesn't seem to work for me. M1 chip running Ventura. It shows up in the input menu but doesn't appear when chosen.

Oh, actually I wonder if it's having problems with some stale preferences, what if you try defaults delete com.blugs.inputmethod.IPAPalette

(actually before you do that do a defaults read com.blugs.inputmethod.IPAPalette to see what, potentially, the offending values were)

Opening the app directly from within ~/Library/InputMethods did not work.

Here's the output of the preference:

The delete command worked, and the app is now working again, so it would be helpful to add that to your README.md for the fork.

@gobbledegook Adding another comment here, since your fork doesn't seem to have Issues activated:

It's a while since I last used the original version, but I seem to recall that double clicking on a symbol would insert it. This (no longer?) seems to work, and instead you need to drag the symbol, which is much less efficient. Is this the expected behaviour?

oh lol i didn't realize "Issues" was a setting you have to enable... well maybe it's better this way, right now there's no issues there that wouldn't also be an issue here

Anyway I also remember the double click behavior and don't know why/when it stopped working. When I have some spare cycles I may investigate ;)
