When I import a bibliographic entry from a journal with the name abbreviated, I can usually expand this to the full name by simply clicking the button next to the Journal field in JabRef. However, for some APS journals, the abbreviation in the built-in abbreviations list does not match the format used by the journal, so JabRef does not recognize the abbreviation and no automatic replacement is possible. I have noticed this for the following titles (all by APS, you can click on Export Citation on the example article pages to directly see the suggested BibTeX output):
- Physical Review Applied uses Phys. Rev. Appl. but JabRef expects Phys. Rev. Applied (example article).
- Physical Review Research uses Phys. Rev. Res. but JabRef expects Phys. Rev. Research (example article).
- Physical Review Materials uses Phys. Rev. Mater. but JabRef expects Phys. Rev. Materials (example article).
Luckily, I can just define my own abbreviations list including these variants and am then able to do the automatic replacement. However, I think it would be nice for JabRef to support the style used by the Journals themselves by default. Maybe they can be added to the built-in abbreviations list in addition to the present ones?
