Gmail Account without OAuth2

First of all, I want to point out how useful and great this application is.
Unfortunately I can't find an instruction about how to correctly connect Group-Office to my Gmail Account using an App Password instead of an OAuth2 integration. So I post this issue here, hoping it is the right place to ask.

I tried to connect to Gmail using an app password several times and some times it worked to show the folder structure but no mails, but mostly neither the folders nor the mails where loaded. But I can send Emails, so the authentication to the gmail-Server (imap.gmail.com:993; smtp.gmail.com:465) seems to work.

Can Gmail be used with an app password or do I have to use OAuth2?

Unfortunately, you can't use an app password. Since 2020, LSAs were actively discouraged by Google and as far as I can tell, support was fully dropped as per January 2025.

happy new year and thanks a lot for your answer. What you say, is I have to go with the googles OAuth solution?
Funny about app password usage. It works for me for emClient, nextcloud and other applications.
