This table highlights how customizable setups, including Surface devices, adaptive accessories, and augmentations, empower individuals with disabilities to interact with technology in ways that fit their unique needs.

Purpose of the display

This station demonstrates how combinations of thoughtfully designed devices, assistive accessories, and personalized augmentations can empower individuals with disabilities to create computing setups tailored to their needs. By integrating tools such as the Surface Adaptive Kit and custom keyboard skins, these setups help bridge gaps in accessibility and provide more inclusive computing solutions.

Detailed description

The table display features a clean, white surface with various devices, accessories, and tools neatly arranged to demonstrate accessible computing configurations.

Surface Pro 8

A Surface Pro 8 is positioned centrally on the table, mounted on a sturdy white stand that raises the device to eye level. The stand has a clean, minimalist design with a circular cutout at its base. This height adjustment allows for closer screen viewing, catering to individuals with visual impairments or those needing a more ergonomic setup.

The Microsoft Designer Keyboard, placed directly in front of the Surface Pro 8, is slim and white with keys enhanced by the Surface Adaptive Kit. Certain keys, such as "Enter," "Backspace," and function keys, are adorned with high-contrast tactile markers or colored overlays, making them easier to identify. These labels are rectangular or cross-shaped for visual and tactile differentiation.

To the right of the keyboard is the Microsoft Mouse, a sleek, ergonomic design in a light gray color. It also incorporates tactile enhancements from the Adaptive Kit, ensuring it is easy to grip and operate for individuals with limited dexterity.

Surface Laptop Go

Positioned to the right of the Surface Pro 8, the Surface Laptop Go is a compact laptop with a customized keyboard. A vibrant, silicone keyboard overlay is fitted to its keyboard.

The overlay features **large, bold, high-contrast letters**, with each key clearly delineated. The keys are color-coded: vowels are marked in one bright color (e.g., green), consonants in another (e.g., blue), and numbers and punctuation in different shades (e.g., purple and yellow). This design aids individuals with cognitive disabilities, learning difficulties, or low vision in easily distinguishing between key types.

The keyboard layout and tactile markings on the overlay also ensure improved usability for touch typists or those using alternative input methods.

Surface Adaptive Kit

In the foreground of the display, the Surface Adaptive Kit components are carefully arranged on the table. They are presented in their original packaging as well as applied to demonstration cards for a tactile and visual experience.

The kit includes various textured and high-contrast labels, such as raised dots, lines, and geometric shapes, for marking keys and ports. A specific card shows a grid layout of stickers, each featuring a unique pattern for easy identification by touch or sight. Another card demonstrates labels for cables and devices, including tactile tags shaped like rectangles and ovals, which can be affixed to accessories for better usability.

Overall Presentation

The table is positioned in a brightly lit, carpeted room with modern furniture in the background, including colorful chairs and shelving units.

To the left of the table is a cushioned bench with an orange fabric finish, adding a touch of warmth to the display setting. The accessible tools and devices are meticulously aligned, creating an inviting and organized presentation that emphasizes clarity and usability.

This detailed description mirrors the experience of viewing the display, offering a thorough understanding of the setup, its visual elements, and its intended accessibility applications.
