Development and Validation of the "Psychological Features of Labor" Questionnaire

Context

Development and validation of a psychometric instrument for analyzing work-related attitudes, targeting publication in Q1 and Q2 peer-reviewed journals (English version for Q1, Russian for Q2).

Stack

Data collection

  • anketolog.ru (survey platform)

R

  • tidyverse — data wrangling and pipelines
  • psych — factor analyses
  • lavaan — structural equation modeling
  • semPlot, lavaanPlot — factor analysis and SEM plots
  • GPArotation — factor rotation methods
  • data.table — data manipulation
  • rstatix — t-tests

Workflow

Non-code phases

  1. Item development for the questionnaire (expert panel).
  2. Literature search for external validity instruments.
  3. First data collection (Spring 2023).
  4. Addition of external validation instruments.
  5. Second data collection with updated survey (Winter 2024).

Analysis

  1. Reliability checks and assumption verification.
  2. Demographic distribution analysis.
  3. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA).
  4. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA).
  5. Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM).
  6. Factor weight calculation for the final structure.
  7. External validity assessment via correlations with established work-related instruments.

Results

Developed and validated a questionnaire with a three-factor structure: subjective work significance, team connection, and affective component. The instrument is applicable in HR analytics for diagnosing employee attitudes and identifying growth factors within teams. The key differentiator from existing instruments is the confirmed importance of the instrumental component for overall work experience — particularly relevant in the IT sector.
