Recorder Workflow Option w/o Barcode?

I have built the Recorder Software for one of my archivists here at Notre Dame to use. Most of what he is working with (In-House made Sports Media) is not barcoded, so he has to work around the Barcode part of the recorder.

Is there a way to configure the recorder not to require that? As another alternative, what code would I look at to make a branch without that?

Hello - it's good to hear that people are still using this! I myself am no longer assigned to this project, so I can't comment on whether or not there are resources for updating the recorder.

If you want to fork the project and update the recorder yourself, the logic to validate barcode values is found in the ObjectModel.cs file, specifically:

1. Line 50 - this line of code defines the regular expression that is used to verify the barcode value.
2. Line 94 - this line of code requires that the barcode field have a value and conform to the regular expression defined on line 50 of the same file

For example, if you wanted to make the recorder allow any value in the barcode field, you could update line 94 to something like this:

    // require that barcode has a value, but don't require
    // bar code to follow a specific format
    return !string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(Barcode); // && _barcodeExpression.IsMatch(Barcode);
}

Or, if you want the barcode to not be required:

private bool BarcodeValid()
{
    // don't require barcode
    return true;
}

Or, if you did want to still have the barcode meet a specific format (but different than the current format), then you could modify the RegEx value defined on line 50.

I myself probably would stil require that the barcode be set, because otherwise you run the risk of the recorder overwriting existing files. Also, line 63 uses the barcode for the working folder name. The code should still work if the barcode is not set, but again, the folder names will probably not be unique enough to avoid overwriting files.
