Acquiring filenames in a directory is very slow when directory contains a large number of files

For a directory containing 10k files, it takes several seconds for the function in directory-files execute.

That's a good point. I see a way to potentially optimize this. Give me a few days to think about it. Are many of the files related to to file being rolled or are they other files?
