Online version check?

Some tools (like npm itself) check their own version with the nom registry every (x) times they are run. This is pretty neat to keep users up to date, but is it too much for these tiny tools?

It depends on how time-consuming it is to code such a feature. In general: yes, an update check is always good for any kinds of tools or programs. But if it is taking hours or even day to add such a feature, then it is not worth the time. That's just my opinion. I don't know anything about coding, so I can only guess.
