Display inverted and reversed

Everything worked normally on delivery. After installing the firmware, the image was inverted and mirrored.
On an older 2nd device I had no problem, seems to be a new model.

Yes, unfortunately it looks like different displays are now being used for this receiver. Please see thread below.

I think this will be the same for all versions of the firmware including most of the originals. It is probably possible to adjust the settings in the library/code for the display.

Other GitHub contributors may release another version to support this screen, but I will not be making any further releases.

If you are able to recompile from the source code and experiment with the settings you can try and fix the issue, otherwise I suggest you ask the seller for the original binary files.

I recommend making a full backup of the flash on any future devices before attempting to flash any new code.

I'll see how I can get on with it. I wanted to build one from scratch the way I like it anyway, now the motivation is even greater :D I found the form factor on the radio unbeatable.

I am sorry that the ATS_MINI firmware does not render correctly with the display that is fitted on your receiver.

It should be possible to fix it with changes to the library and/or code.

I think the parameters that will need to be adjusted include the following
Colours: TFT_INVERSION_* (* = ON or OFF)
Rotation: tft.setRotation() ( = 0, 1, 2, 3)
Mirroring: TFT_MAD_MX/MY/MV/MH mirror options

If the manufacturers/sellers of these receivers are going to use incompatible components, it is difficult to determine if the firmware will work correctly.

I have created a brief document on how to backup the ESP32-S3 Flash, which should at least allow users to restore to the original settings if something goes wrong.

I have also created an experimental test case that you are welcome to try, it may or may not fix the problem for the alternative display. If not, you may be able to make further changes to try and get the display to work.

As previously stated, for any future devices, I recommend a full Flash backup is done before downloading any new firmware.

Its not an ideal patch, but at least it gets you working again with the different display.
If there is another display type, the same problem could occur.
I will leave this thread in place and people may be able to make improvements.

@G8PTN I'm thinking whether it is possible to autodetect the display type via the ST7899_RDDID command. I'm not sure it is the right way to read the data that is get sent by the RDDID command, but for me it prints 48181:

Yes, it may be possible. I am not sure how you determine the required colour inversion and rotation setting from the RDDID.
Even the original display does not have a logical relationship with the definitions in the ST7789 library.

For completeness, I have updated the patch for ST7789_Rotation.h driver to have a slightly more logical mapping.

The required rotation settings for normal operation are unchanged.

Filename: ATS_MINI_v1_01_8M_D2.zip
Where:
_v1_01 = V1.01
_8M = Compiled for 8M Flash. This should work for ESP32-S3 (N8R2) and (N16R8)
_D2 = Display type 2
