Phone dialpad stops working during a call #225

I recently had a service call at the end of which I was asked to complete a survey. I was unable to do the survey, as -- while the dialpad was visible and pressing buttons entered them into the number field -- no dial tones were sent over the connection. This is the second time this has happened; I've never had this work. I am able to navigate DTMF menus if they're the first thing that I encounter, but it stops working at some point.

I'm not sure how many of these steps are necessary to replicate this, but I believe part of the issue is if the screen locks during a call. Somehow, the lock screen interferes or stops the Phone app from sending DTMF signals.

  1. Start a call
  2. Allow enough time for the screen to lock
  3. While the call is ongoing, try to return to the phone app and send DTMF signals

At step 3, you can press buttons but no tones will be generated.
