Fumes outside the token circle?

Right now if I apply fumes it overlays the token. I want to see the fumes kind of wisp off of the token. Is this possible? I used the glacier xglow as a template and modified it to kind of get what I want, but the fumes would look better I think. Can they emit from the token somehow and not cover the center of it at all?
