mobile usage on the map controls is lower than we'd like. hypothesizing that this is the result of a few issues:

• the data controls are not visible
• once the data controls are visible, they are difficult to read (requires three presses to see what the map is showing)
• it is not clear what the map is showing on first view, so users may be discouraged to interact

• create spec / wireframe outlining UI improvements that might encourage usage
• spec and wireframe team review
• team / client review
• prototype implementation
• revisions (if any)
• PR for review
• add to release and launch 🎉
