Reason for abandonment of this project?

I understand that this is no longer being developed and I can't seem to find any recent articles or docs and this repo doesn't seem to have been updated since 2016.

However, I don't understand why it was abandoned. Was it not popular enough or were there technical limitations?
Because I may have to start work with Spark soon and I was hoping to be able to use my Node experience for this, but all of the node-based spark repositories and npm packages are abandoned, as far as I can see.

So I'm worried there is an inherent technical incompatibility to make the attempt futile.
Any thoughts, anyone?
