DirectFB usage question

Hi,

I am very new to DirectFB and am wonder some things.

I need to be able to run a DirectFB application (perhaps DirectVNC) on a system without an xserver to keep the footprint as absolutely as small as possible.

Will DirectFB do this or do I still need an xserver like Xorg or Wayland?
