There are multiple ways to integrate Plumbery with Chef. Please contribute here on the analysis and on the evaluation of these options. Thanks for your insight.

Cloud-init is coming natively with chef support, as exposed here: http://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/topics/examples.html#install-and-run-chef-recipes

This is meaning that if a chef server is available, then plumbery can be used to deploy nodes and to connect them to the chef server quite easily.

Other guys have had the same idea, for example at http://www.tothenew.com/blog/chef-bootstrapping-an-autoscaled-node-using-cloud-init-cloud-config-and-userdata/

This could be a starting point for a fittings plan to be created in plumbery-contrib

Good news. The omnibus installer for Chef is available both for Linux and for Windows. This does allow the installation of Chef over the wire.
