mounting and traversing initializes the global state and the lookahead buffer respectively, both operations require traversing the entire filesystem in a similar way, consider making a combined operation

combined operation is possible, however the lookahead is a fixed size and does not cover the whole filesystem, it will start with an offset of 0 blocks, and when full, move this offset. on reboot this offset is lost, meaning that traversing for the lookahead can take multiple cycles moving the lookahead offset.
