This issue tracks the phased roadmap from v2.3.0 to v3.0. Each phase groups related features that can be developed and released incrementally.

Each phase can ship as a minor release (v2.4, v2.5, …). The v3.0 tag marks completion of all phases, or can coincide with multi-platform support (#282) as the major breaking change.
