MMM doesn't set conflict rules for file overrides between two mods that have no other conflicts. See screenshots below.

Another issue I found regarding the current conflict rule algorithm of MMM:

Issue

The installation file name is NOT guaranteed to be unique! This is especially the case when two mods are installed from the same installation file (e.g. with different FOMOD options of which one is disabled by default and optional for the user). While MO2 then just sees those as two entirely different mods as the mod name (and folder name of the mod) is independent from the name of the installation file, Vortex sees them as two variants of the same mod and just appends a custom variant identifier to its internal id.

Example

An example of this case can be seen in LoreRim which has Dear Diary Dark Mode installed two times:

• "Dear Diary Dark Mode"
• "Dear Diary Dark Mode - 21x9" (disabled by default, optional)

Both mods are installed from 'Dear Diary Dark Mode (texts - white color)-60837-1-1-1-1667594519.7z'.

Potential solution

Vortex -> MO2:

• determine variant names from Vortex's id for the mod
• append to display name (creates variant-specific folders and names in MO2)

MO2 -> Vortex:

• separate id from installation file
• add the suffix of the longer mod name as the variant name:
