Unable to scroll the left side of the dashboard prevents customizing dashboards on mobile screens

What happened?

Because the left side of the dashboard widgets isn't scrollable (between the widgest and left side menu), when on mobile if I want to customize the screen, the widget visibility menu covers most of the dashboard, so as a result I'm unable to navigate fully to move any widget around for customization.

Thanks @begunfx — confirmed the issue. The dashboard customize panel was a fixed 240px sticky sidebar with no mobile adaptation. On small screens it consumed most of the viewport width, blocking scroll and widget interaction entirely.

The fix (two parts):

1. Panel is now opt-in during edit mode. Clicking the pencil enters edit mode (drag handles, resize handles appear) but the widget visibility panel does NOT auto-open on mobile. A new sliders icon appears next to the pencil — tap it to open the panel when you need it, tap X or the backdrop to close it and get back to rearranging. On desktop, the panel still auto-opens as a sidebar.

2. Full-screen overlay on mobile. When you do open the panel on small screens (<768px), it renders as a full-screen overlay with a backdrop dismiss instead of the old cramped sidebar.

This means on mobile you can:

• Enter edit mode and freely drag/rearrange widgets
• Tap the sliders icon to open the widget panel, toggle visibility
• Close the panel and continue rearranging
• Tap the check icon to exit edit mode

On the development branch — will be in the next RC build.

This should be fixed in v1.5.0-rc.2. Please update and let us know if this resolves the issue for you.

When I go to edit dashboard on mobile. I am still unable to scroll the screen to move different widgets. I am locked to only being able to move widgets that are currently in front of me. I would recommend making the left side of the screen/widgets scrollable so there is some screen real estate to navigate with. Or change the way the dashboard is editable on a mobile screen. Possibly some sort of compact view when in edit mode so it's easier to make changes on a small screen.

Thanks for the follow-up — the RC2 fix addressed the panel overlay but missed the actual scroll problem.

What was still happening: In edit mode, grid-layout-plus treats the entire widget surface as a drag target (no dragAllowFrom restriction). This means a vertical swipe over any widget is captured as a drag gesture instead of scrolling the page. On mobile it's even worse — the library adds touch-action: none to draggable items, which overrides the app's pan-y scroll intent entirely.

What we fixed for rc.3:

• Dashboard widget dragging is now restricted to the explicit 6-dot drag handle via dragAllowFrom: '.drag-handle'
• The widget shell itself keeps touch-action: pan-y so vertical swipes on the widget body scroll the dashboard normally
• Only the drag handle and resize handles use touch-action: none to preserve their gesture behavior
• Added regression tests that verify drag-handle restriction and scroll accessibility during edit mode

This will ship in rc.3 — please verify once it's out.
