Showing current media file metadata in external Text item?

Media Playlist Source works great. There is just one thing I am missing: option to show in OBS what is currently playing?

Could it be done like with linking Media Playlist Source to some external Text item so it can update it with metadata of current media file, like Artist Name and Title? Two external Texts would be even better.

On Windows, I used to use the VLC source (which this is replacing) + Tuna. Tuna would get the metadata from VLC, write a text file on disk (with a highly configurable text metadata selection), and ALSO offer a progress bar source component + media control dock.

I think that if media-playlist-source could at least write the currently playing filename (without extension?) to a text file, it would bridge most of the gap.
