Running CQL on XQuartz on Apple Silicon induces garbled text panels

There is a known issue XQuartz/XQuartz#31 that affects CQL on apple silicon running on Xquartz. The work around, as described in that thread, is to enable magnification in accessibility features and then zoom in a minimal amount; that removes the display corruption.
