show already-entered metadata value

After updating L1 metadata, the user doesn't know that value has been set.

Example: for "Common Name" I entered "soy" earlier, went and added other metadata, then came back to "Common Name" field where there is no indication that I'd already entered a value. I can enter data without knowing if I have entered anything at all.

It would be great if the tool told me that the value has already been set, and what it is set to.

Are you referring to single spectra panel or the multi-spectra popup?

I was referring to the multi-spectra popup, but ...

I just tried with a single spectrum selected and there is also no 'memory' of the previously-entered value.

Also, when I edit a single spectrum, the popup is labelled "Multi Spectra Edit".

So the 'single spectra panel' is accessed by simply clicking the pencil icon on the right hand side of the table. The popup was intended for editing multiple spectra at once. Because these spectra can have differing values for any particular field you can't fill the value for any one particular spectra. I could look to show the value if all spectra for the attribute you are currently editing are the same or add some for of indicator if they are not.

Ok, I didn't get that. I thought editing a single spectrum meant selecting the spectrum to edit by picking the box on the left side, then picking "edit selected" at the top.

I'm wondering now about the utility of having a different interface for multi and single spectrum editing. From my POV, I wouldn't often have occasion to edit spectra one-at-a-time. I'd be more likely to select a block out of many and then edit.
